Nick likes basketball. Nick wants to go to basketball practice, but the text is very sad. Nick runs to his house. Nick’s dad is outside. Nick’s dad sees the news on his iPad. Nick’s dad hears that there is an earthquake in Haiti. Nick and his dad are sad.
Uncle Benite is in Haiti. Uncle Benite has a school. He has a school for boys and girls. Uncle Benite helps boys and girls. The boys and girls speak French and Haitian Creole. Benite’s family lives outside of Port-au-Prince. Benite has a house for his family and a school for the boys and girls. There are six hundred boys and girls in the school. The earthquake is horrible.
Nick doesn’t go to basketball. Nick doesn’t go to school. Nick doesn’t go to the store. Nick wants to hear from his uncle. There are no texts. The phone doesn’t ring. Nick and his Mom and dad are sad.
After one week, the phone rings. It is Benite. Benite is safe. The family is safe. The boys and girls are safe. The school is horrible. The school is not safe. The school had eighteen rooms. The school has six rooms now. The school has no electricity. The school needs electricity.
Nick’s dad works. Nick’s dad has a company. The company works with solar energy. Nick’s Dad can help.
One day Nick’s dad says, “Nick, I will help Benite. I will go to Haiti. Do you want to go to Haiti with me? We can help Benite. I will give Benite solar energy. When Benite has solar energy he can use his computer and he can work on the school. I will go to Haiti for one week. You will miss school and basketball. Do you want to go?”
Nick likes basketball and wants to go to school, but Nick wants to help his uncle. Nick doesn’t like to speak French, but his uncle needs help. Nick will go with his dad.
